OtK is involved in weekend activities with boarding school kids during school term. This provides continuity in our relationship with the kids as they negotiate their teen years, a time when extra support can make all the difference. Our activities provide an environment for the kids where they may feel more comfortable to talk about issues or it may simply provide recharge/regroup time for them. Sometimes we assist the kids with homework or assignments and have also been a contact point for schools who need local support to help kids who are struggling.
All of this support can help overcome the homesickness and culture shock that comes with leaving their remote home to complete their studies. WIthout this support, a lot more kids would not finish their schooling. This links directly with our Leadership development and mentoring activities.
